Eagle Books is the most fascinating, unique bookstore I have ever been to, and is owned and operated by the kindest woman. If you are a book lover in New Hampshire, and have never been to Eagle Books, it’s a must-do. It’s located at 19 West St in Keene, NH; right on the outskirts of the roundabout.
The store is run by Sylvia, the sweetest woman you’ll meet. My friend and I were wandering around downtown taking photos, and happened to stumble across her store. Sylvia was so kind and welcoming, offering to answer any questions or help in any way as we browsed her store. We came out of the bookstore after an hour long adventure with two books, and a new appreciation for historical literature. Some of her books date back to the early 1900s, some even include annotations. Sylvia has owned Eagle Books for 30 years and has been collecting for over 40. When we inquired about whether or not she gets much business, she said “no, not at all. But, it gets me up in the morning.”
I have never been to a bookstore I’ve loved as much as Eagle Books. There is a wide variety, ranging from children’s books, to American classics, to cook books and more. There are so many hidden gems, and every book is reasonably priced. If you are ever in Keene, be sure to stop by and spend a few minutes looking around. You won’t be sorry.
