Get off the Couch and Into the World

When I look around and I see all of the beautiful things in this world and in this life, I start to realize that life is more than just whatever I’m going through at that moment. There’s more to it than the events that happen in our time here on earth. God didn’t create us and the world around us so that we could sit around and wallow in self pity or hatred or laziness. He created us and put each one of us here for a reason. There’s a great big world out there full of so many things we never get to see in our tiny little lifetimes. During my trip to Colorado, I realized a few very important things. I realized that mishaps happen, things go wrong, and sometimes it feels like the world is crashing down. We had a whole lot of mishaps this trip, but I realized that when you’re with the people that you love, and you are able to maintain a good attitude and make the best of everything, you can turn everything around. A positive outlook can be the difference between a really crappy time, and a really happy time. Through being in the mountains without cell service, experiencing lack of oxygen, and taking in beautiful views, I began to understand the importance of living in the moment. I started to realize that there’s good and bad in the world, but that isn’t the point. The point is making the best of the time we have.

My new mission is to see and experience as much of what this world has to offer as possible, and pause to enjoy every single beautiful moment life has in store for me. So next time you see something beautiful or great, take a minute to enjoy it. Use it as a reminder that the world doesn’t revolve around us, and that everything we struggle through is temporary. We only get one shot on this earth, why wouldn’t we make every day count? Get off your couch, get out of your house, and go see the world. Seeing the world doesn’t have to be traveling globally or even cross country. You can see the world by simply opening your eyes to it. Pay attention to the details of your everyday life, and to those around you. Make a point to go somewhere new as often as given the chance. A different coffee shop, a park on the other side of town, a new restaurant down the street. Traveling is not defined by how far you go, but rather by the things you experience. So take this as motivation, and travel. Start in your backyard, your town, and soon, you’ll realize you’re getting to know this world that God created for us just a little bit better every single day.
